The Importance of Annual Comprehensive Eye Exams

You may wonder why it is important to have a comprehensive eye exam every year. Comprehensive eye exams allow our optometrist to monitor and maintain the eye health of our patients. If you live in or around Old Greenwich and it has been a while since your last eye exam, contact our team at Greenwich Eye Care today.

What is a Comprehensive Eye Exam?

Part of your regular health care is periodic eye exams with your eye doctor. As with so many other illnesses, many things can go wrong with your eyes that are not obvious and present no symptoms. Our eye doctor will determine what tests need to be performed during your annual exam. Your eye health history tells the eye doctor a lot and can play a large role when it is time to develop a course of action. Some of the tests we may want to perform include:

Visual acuity - This tests how clearly you can see. Your vision is checked for both near and far vision.

Keratometry - This is a test of the curvature of the cornea and helps with fitting contact lenses.

Refraction - This test helps the doctor determine the amount of correction your vision needs.

Other tests that can be performed require the eye to be dilated. Our optometrist will decide when this is a necessary option. The pressure inside your eye may be tested to check for glaucoma. Any family history of diabetes, cataracts, or glaucoma may increase your risk of developing these conditions.

Back to School Eye Exams

Eye exams are something that start from birth with children. Once they start school, getting a back-to-school eye exam will help ensure that your children see as clearly as they should. Our eye doctor will know what to watch out for after consulting your family history of eye health issues.
